01/12/2003 Entry: "Just a quick note..."

Just a quick note (I heard that--try to hold in your sarcastic laughing next time guys)--to pass along two stories.

First last night--my youngest who is 3 (C), said her very first prayer. Kinda. Every single night we all huddle up together and say our prayers together. It is our way of teaching the kids how to pray. They hear us pray for things we are worried about or scared about, for people we love and for people who are sick, and sometimes even for God to bless people who make us angry or sad...they hear us praise God for the good things in our lives, they hear us ask the Lord for His protection over us, our home, our finances, or lives, and the lives of others...they hear us ask for His forgiveness for things we have done that we shouldn't have, and they hear us be honest and real about our lives. It's a wonderful lesson, and in turn my two oldest children actually pray some very thoughtful and beautiful prayers. My 9 year old ends every prayer with "guide us through the night and the coming day ahead"--a beautiful sentiment for a 9 year old I think. Well, my little C has always sat in on our prayers but only bowed her head and sometimes would say amen...but never participated, and the few times when I would say "Who has a prayer" she'd get caught up in the excitement and say "I do!" with her brother and sister. When she would do this we would all give her the opportunity to go first but she always clammed up before and would usually leave the room lol which is something I do allow as I don't want her to ever view our prayer time as something that she HAS to do in order to be "good"...I know if she sees us doing it long enough then she will WANT to join us. Well, last night she did the whole "I do!" and so I told her that was great--did she have a prayer? She said YES!!! So then she sat there and folded her hands and then she closed her eyes and bowed her head (as we all did with me doing a teeny bit of peeking lol)--and then I felt her hand touch mine--and she said "Mommy, will you teach me how?" Oh...it was one of those moments I will never forget. I told her I would and explained that praying was just talking to God like she would talk to us, that we tell Him about the good things that have happened to us and thank Him, that we can pray for things we are scared about, and that we can ask for His help in anything we need. So she asked if she prayed it in my ear if I would send it up to Heaven. I told her sure...so here is my daughters first prayer ever:

"Please let Brookie and Ashley come here sometime. Please keep my Daddy safe while he is gone. Let us have a lot of fun tomorrow. Thank you for making my toe feel better. Let us sleep good and have nice dreams. Amen"

Awwwwwwwwwwweeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! Isn't it so sweeeeeeeeeeet?!?!? I could just burst with sweetness lol Who knows tonight she might get up and leave or play quietly with her dolls during our prayer time, but I have a feeling she might just join us some more and before long she'll be a part of our nightly prayers! Praise God! OH and Brooke is one of her cousins--she has a special thing right now about her which is so sweet because I remember very clearly having a really big thing about one of my cousins named Jennifer. In fact, I loved her so much I named ALL of my dolls Jennifer after her lol Can you imagine the confusion when I was playing with my dolls? Okay Jennifer you do this, and Jennifer you do that, no not YOU Jennifer, YOU Jennifer...uhhuh.

Next--this is also about my wee one. I had a moment that was out of a movie earlier. You know that phrase "climbing the walls"? Like...the kids are so wild they are climbing the walls? Yeah...well...there are a few times (every hour or so) when my kids fit that description...but this morning had to of been the kicker. I was sitting here checking my email...and I see out of the corner of my eye C doing some kind of wreckless action over by the fridge at which point I turn to see exactly what she is doing and decide whether she's going to end up hurt or tearing something up. There is my daughter, a wisp of a thing, she just topped the scales at 30 pounds--hanging on the handle of the fridge door like a monkey, feet planted on the front of the fridge, trying to climb up the fridge saying "oh, please, let me be like Spiderman, I can be Spidergirl" over and over. LOL I suppose that is what happens when a princess has an older brother who is very much action hero boy, and a sister who is a mixture of action hero super star and princess with an attitude--who like to use the house as a gym and the furniture as gymnastic equipment. =o)

Have a great day and I'll chat later! Be blessed!
~A
