01/26/2003 Entry: "I almost did it!"

I very nearly spent the whole day in my pj's today! I actually didn't *have* to get out of them at all...I chose to which is a good feeling! I got to sleep in as dh got up with the kids this morning, took a shower, he made lunch and we had a pork roast for dinner tonight which was scrumdidilyumptious! I have peanut butter cookies cooling on the window seal--as we are having a family meeting tonight and I wanted a treat for the kids.

Now...baking a surprise in this house is practically impossible! My kids have sensors in their little noses that know the moment I start mixing something up to cook. I actually have to shoo them from the room to get them to LET me surprise them. Now of course once I have forcibly removed them from the kitchen--well...then it's time for them to resort to jungle guerilla tactics. First step is to try to come in for a legitimate reason...like one of them is hurt...suddenly something that they had done a week ago is having a rebound pain...one of them will come into the kitchen--working on trying to look like they are in pain--talking about how something is hurting them SO badly. I quickly usher them out of the kitchen and tell them that they will have to suffer in pain in another room of the house, as the kitchen is occupied. Next comes the "he said she said"...they get together and decide they should fight, as I will surely welcome them in the kitchen if they are fighting. One will come in and say "so and so did this..." and on it goes as quickly the other party comes in the room with a quick "defense"...as both of them are craning their necks and trying to peek around me as I usher them AGAIN from the room. The final defense they have...and by far the lowest...is to send in the "baby"...yup...the older two convince the youngest to come find out what I am making. This just happened. The oldest two tried to find out to no avail. Suddenly I turn around and the youngest is standing behind me. "What're you makin Mommy?" "A treat for our family meeting" "When are we going to do that?" "In a few minutes" Off she goes, apparently getting an answer to BOTH of the questions the older two had grilled into her. My dh and I laugh because we know that the older two will think they missed something and that I really TOLD her something--and sure enough...out pops my R who says..."C is trying to tell us something but we can't understand what she's saying" I say to her "what is she saying?" She says "that you are making something for the meeting" and I am like "sure" and she says "but we can't tell what she's saying it IS" to which my dh and I say in unison "because we didn't TELL her what it was"..."oh" Yeah...it's tough being a kid...and it's even tougher for a Mom to surprise her kiddidles with peanut butter cookies!

Well, I am off for now, hope you are all tremedously blessed!
