02/06/2003 Entry: "Rainy and yet busy day here!"

Well, I haven't gotten to write in a day or so. We have been VERY busy preparing for the Cub Scout Blue & Gold banquet. We have been so busy with it the last few days have been something of a blur. Let's see...Monday night/Tuesday I got finished and mailed off the Pack newsletter--ended up being 4 pages long thanks to all of the info that I had to pass (on 10pt sized font no less!)--so that consumed most all of Tuesday. After we cleaned up from my "break" which is anytime I don't focus on "home" with 110% lol we spent yesterday going to the grocery stores (we usually hit at least 2 so we can take advantage of their sale ads)--then last night drawing up the plans for the cake for the B&G. It's gonna be SO cool. I will post pictures for sure! I'm excited about it...part was my idea, part dh's...and together we came up with an AWESOME design!! Of course, the part dh came up with is incredibly difficult...and I started to run and hide when he came in from the kitchen with the bag already filled and tipped and handed it to ME and said "go for it!" Yeah RIGHT lol Well, I don't want to spoil the surprise so I won't tell you what it IS but you'll all think it's pretty cool when you DO see it!

So today I have spent cleaning, doing laundry, and making tons of phone calls (so far!) Dh has been out for about 3 hours gathering all of the stuff we need for the cake and display. Can you say *18* boxes of cake mix?? Hehe...yeah well...I CAN...guess what I'm doing tonight?? I just had got a hugemongous hug from a lap rat who came and said "I wanna pway on the puter"--she is now playing "The Story Of Creation" which has all of these little people, animals, and play things to click on who do funny and crazy things...like a cactus who shaves lol It's cute--and I'm a sucker what can I say?

Oh and the other really needs to be updated thing. The irs. You know. I'm thinking that by now, since I have actually typed "irs" over, oh a conservative figure would be say 15 times--that I am now on one of their "watch" lists. In fact--here's a wave to them! At any rate. I DID talk to the irs finally. I actually called Tuesday morning. Now, I think I might have mentioned before that I don't sleep really well. In fact, I am up and down most of the night. Now...Monday night/Tuesday Morning I was up and down all night as usual...I was working some more on the Scout newsletter and what not...and had sorta "forgotten" about the irs issue for the moment. You know how you can do that sometimes...you have that faint feeling that there's something you should REALLY be concerned about but can't quite pinpoint what it is you know. That was me. Hmm...what is it I was going to do...what is it I am forgetting about that is very important? At 6:39 am I remembered. The irs. Of course...I don't really know how I could have forgotten. I pulled out the papers and again went over what it said. I'm like okay I'm an idiot...we've established that but what the hey...let's play along for the benefit of the irs. SO...knowing that the paper says they do not open until 7 am I figure I'll call the number and find out what this extension number they gave me leads to. Maybe it would help me be more prepared for when I *did* talk to someone. SO...I dial the number...thinking...if the extension picks up and says "you've reached the legal auditing department of the irs" or..."we know who you are and that you are insecure about your income tax return because this is the first year you've filed a 1065 so we are going to come after you"...or..."don't hang up we have caller id"...heck if *I* have a smart phone I am POSITIVE the irs has a smarter phone yeah well, you know that whole thing about your overactive imagination...hehe SO. I dial the number it rings and a mechanical voice says "welcome to the irs information center". I'm thinking it'll surely say "we are currently closed" but it doesn't. Nope...it asks for the extension number so I'm all "sure thing"...put the number in and wait to hear what department I reach...ready to hang up at any moment. Well, you know lack of sleep...6:40 am...I'm a little foggy and I hear this voice say something like "thank you for calling the irs, this is Agent 3409DSF99 34027JDF900 8 23048AFNSF AAS903458075072 KLJLJF9U0808 0824L2JLKJ4 L9870987R 09WRL2J4L J2L493808F0 98SRLWJ34L 2J498S0F 8SLJL3I4U230 4832...B How can I help you?" I'm all...omg I'm talking to the irs and I'm not even prepared--they aren't supposed to ANSWER! So I am all like... "I'm sure this happens all the time...you know I didn't notice it said "three weeks"....I called that number and it told me to contact you all...I just did this last week, I think it's just a problem because I didn't wait long enough...I'm an idiot" and other somewhat incoherent babbling on my part followed by nervous laughter. Ummm...no laughter on the other end. Agent 3409DSF99 34027JDF900 8 23048AFNSF AAS903458075072 KLJLJF9U0808 0824L2JLKJ4 L9870987R 09WRL2J4L J2L493808F0 98SRLWJ34L 2J498S0F 8SLJL3I4U230 4832...B CLEARLY does not have a sense of humor...at least not at 6:40 am when she shouldn't be answering the phone anyway. Maybe working at the irs does that to you...or maybe I was like the 10 billionth person who called and said basically the same thing ....so she asks me some information which I gave her, she put me on hold. She comes back after about 30 seconds...and she says "Mrs. Soandso, we have confirmed...you ARE an idiot" Okay okay, she didn't say THAT...but I felt it...in fact--I'm pretty sure she put me on hold so she could call out to the rest of the service center "Hey guys--we've got ANOTHER one!!" followed by a bunch of laughter, and placing my information on a dart board for the next time they are feeling tense. Anyway, she confirmed what I figured which is that the phone system does not get information on the return until after appx 3 weeks, and since I called before that the system assumed there was a delay. I'm like "okay thank you...when you're throwing the darts remember I have three small children and this is the first time I've ever done something quite this silly in relation to the irs". I'm sure she was moved by it. The lesson here? Don't end up on some one's dart board. Don't call the irs. For anything. Ever.

So...now I await the refund...wondering if I did set into motion some kind of freak thing where I'll get the refund when I'm turning 86 or something...and now that I have told this story here, the list I am on for saying "irs" on here more than 15 times combined with the list they put me on when I called...will most likely be compared and I'll be on some master list of stupid people who annoy the irs. Yup that would be me.

Okay well, maybe I'm not on any list...but you never know about these things. All in all my expectations of the incident were far worse than the reality...which reminds me of my daughter who is currently struggling with losing her first tooth. You would think we were trying to amputate an arm. I will be glad when it finally comes out so she will know that the fear of the unknown is almost always far worse than what really happens. Of course, I can think of a million scenerios which would make everything that I have told her untrue which I won't bore you with here...suffice to say I lay trust in God that He will make this first lost tooth an easy one so we don't suffer with this issue for ALL of the teeth she will be losing! Either way that tooth HAS to come out...

Well, dh is back with cake mixes so I'm off to be "Betty Crocker" for the afternoon. Or maybe I'll be Elmo on Seseme Street when he cooks. Er...well, I should probably shoot for Betty...but I might be a little Elmo on the side.

Be blessed!!
~A
