02/11/2003 Entry: "Kidney Stones and the Tooth Fairy"

Today we were supposed to leave to go to Georgia for a little "mini" vacation. Instead, dh spent the afternoon at the emergency room, and I spent the afternoon worried sick about him. As it turns out they are 99.9% sure that he is in the process of passing some kidney stones. He was in such terrible pain and was suffering SO badly when I took him over there...nothing can really make you feel more helpless than that I think. It's a terrible feeling and I didn't like it one bit. So needless to say we did not make it to GA today. I was so blessed though, as my friend came over with her kids to baby sit mine so I could go to the hospital if I needed to--which I never did except to pick dh up--as he said there was really no point (after hearing about the guy in the room next door to him I am SURE glad I didn't go.... I immediately gave dh the sanitizing lotion the moment he was in the car!)--so we spent the afternoon making phone calls, calling the hospital and reviewing curriculums. It was such a blessing how she came the moment she heard and stayed all day even though I know she had so many other things she needed to do. Dh is now on lortab 5 and is drinking lots of liquids. I think he's gonna make it, but I keep hearing "owww" every now and again. I niavely asked "what's wrong a few minutes ago"...and got a rather graphic response...I won't share it here, but imagine some of the things that women say when giving birth and you might get the idea.

In other news, our daughter R lost that tooth!!!!!!! Last night she came running downstairs mouth covered in blood--LAUGHING of all things!!! She said that her and B were wrestling and B accidently hit her in the mouth with his knee and OUT popped the tooth! She was estatic! When we put the kids to bed and we did our prayers she thanked God for her tooth not hurting when it came out and so DID I! When we were turning to leave R asks "is the tooth fairy real?" Eh...Dh looks like a deer caught in headlights and hollers goodnight as he runs at mach speed to our bedroom across the hall leaving ME there to answer this question. I heard him laughing as he went... Now, I made a pact with myself a LONG time ago that I would not deliberately lie or mislead my children about these things in they asked me directly so I took a big long breath and tried to act like I didn't hear her lol maybe she didn't REALLY want to know ...but alas...she asked again. So I told her that if she meant "real" as in there is a woman with wings who can fly and goes all around the world collecting children's teeth to build a castle...that no...that wasn't "real" but if she meant that someone sneaks into her room in the middle of the night and takes her tooth and leaves a cool surprise there in return for it then yes that was definately real. She thought about this for a moment and then asked if they came in the room through the door. I told her that it was a secret and that I couldn't tell her that...and she was again babbling on about the tooth fairy and wondering how much money she would get for her tooth! In the meantime, B was about to EXPLODE over the fact that he KNOWS who the "fairy" is and he RUNS out of the room into our bedroom and about pops telling dh that he knows who it is--he knows who it is...he comes back in the room and is all "yah, that's right, I know I know cause I'm cool and I know this cool thing that no one else knows" It was actually one of those moments I can tell you I will always remember. He was VERY impressed with himself and the fact that he was going to be able to keep this secret.

I'll post a pic of the beautiful little lady with one less tooth as per her request tomorrow!

Be blessed and thanks everyone for your thoughts and prayers for dh's speedy recovery!!!

MMMWAH!
