02/19/2003 Entry: "The rest of the story...."

Well, I did get a little bit of sleep =o) That's always good for my mood and my children's moods as well...perceptive little people that they are! As promised, I did call the zoo and found out my new friend's name is Samburu--he is named after a place in Africa that you can read about at this site: Samburu, Kenya. Very fitting name I think. I like it. I'm gonna call him Sam...or Bu. Either way it fits him. Here's a pic for universal enjoyment!

And thought I'd share a few pictures of the most exotic creatures of all...surely the most rare and sought after--the prize in any zoological collection--the tame, well-behaved, smart, and God-fearing child who are so much fun to play with--we managed to see THREE of them! Incredibile!

Hehe, okay we really did have fun--here's a quick rundown. Our hotel was amazing, and when we got there they upgraded our room to a beach view which was so neat and the ocen was so close that we could sit on the balcony (and freeze, did I mention it was a wee bit nippy?) and HEAR the crashing waves. At no time is the power of God more apparent than when you are near the ocean and you see the magnificience of those waves crashing into the sand. Awesome!

The really cool thing is it only took us about an hour and a half to get there so it was so not a big deal to any of us to go...not like those trips that take hours and hours and the kids are all like "are we there yet?" a million times...this trip was so short we didn't hear that one time! The room we stayed in was a suite--it had a kitchenette, two tvs, two full sized beds, a fold out couch, and two comfy chairs. It was veryyyyyyy nice. The staff was great and even better, it was SOOOO quiet!! We slept so peacefully!

Okay but I am ahead of myself. We did go out to go to Chuck E Cheeses that night, of course I am used to noone being at CEC on Sunday nights because it's a school night--however, this particular Sunday night was NOT a school night as the kiddies were out of school for President's Day. Ahh...so we get there and whooEEEEE...it's PACKED. I don't dig CEC with alot of people so this is when dh and I shift into our super secret agent mind warping mode--where we try to convince the children that it is what they WANT--to NOT go to CEC that night that it would be MUCH better to go the next night after our Zoo visit. The "Jedi Mind Trick" worked on them so we didn't have to pull out the "Klingon Sleep Hold" on them--whew. While investigating the parking lot of the CEC which was near a mall...well, lo and behold if my dh didn't go into a hissy fit reminisent of a boy just given the keys to his father's jaguar on his 16th birthday. WhooEEEE again! He spotted of all things the following greatly imagined about and wimsically desired a visit to: Silver Screen Theatre. It was actually in a tiny little cubby hole. Yeah...it's a theatre...so what? Well, it's no ordinary theatre! You get to EAT at a table while you watch your movie...they have fried shrimp, burgers, hotdogs, fried chicken, pizza...tons of bad for you foods (lol) all on a menu that you order to take INTO the theatre to eat where you will find instead of stadium seating a slightly slanted floor, with large round tables with chairs surrounding them where you actually sit and eat your meal while you watch the movie. The REAL meaning behind the whole "dinner and a movie"--and dh had actually heard about this on several radio stations in our area. He was so excited--so he checked to see what was playing and unfortunately they weren't showing any children's movies that night. So a very disappointed dh agreed that we would go "fine dine" at the Waffle House instead. SO...we ate dinner and then we had to find the local Walmart...it's a given ya know...we bought some sunscreen & toy boats then went back to the hotel, played, took baths, watched movies, called everyone to tease them about us being at the beach...and then went to bed.

The next morning we had good intentions of getting up fairly early, which were fouled on purpose I am quite certain by the quiet comfortable hotel room. We did get up and start our day...ending up at the Zoo by about 12. We ate lunch and then we explored the Zoo which was not a HUGE Zoo which I really liked! Even though it was not huge they had every animal I can think of except for elephants. They even had Rhinos! R's favorite! The animals were so well kept and happy--you could really TELL it...and alot of the exhibits had Zoo employees and volunteers in there with them for portions of our visit, sometimes feeding them, sometimes playing with them, but I got the overwhelming feeling that the animals LOVED these people.

We left the Zoo around 4 having looked at, touched, and fed every animal they housed. We made our way to CEC for dinner, but as we passed the theatre mentioned earlier my dh's eyes glassed over...so I suggested that he see if there were any children's movies playing and if so we'd go there to watch the movie and eat dinner and then go to CEC to play games and ice cream afterwards. I didn't have to ask twice. Blessedly, there was a movie (the Wild Thornberries) which was JUST starting. We paid, went in and got the kids settled and got our food. We enjoyed hotdogs, chicken fingers, motz sticks, meatball subs, french fries, and sodas as we watched Eliza do her thing. It was actually REALLY cool...and dh was thrilled he got to experience it! Then we went to CEC and played TONS of games, won lotsa prizes, and ate ice cream. The big mouse came around and hugged the kids as we were leaving, closing our our wild animal day in a postive and somewhat bittersweet way. (and C didn't hug him, he tried to give her five but she shyed away--pretty sure we'll be paying for therapy for that in a few years--come to think of it wonder when we'll be hearing the lawsuits against the big mice--CEC and Mickey? My child was traumatized for life by him...ehh...get a grip people...) As B said, we had a WILD ANIMAL DAY--first the Zoo, then the Thornberry movie which was all about animals, then CEC where they were wild animals, and then the "real" CEC who is a wild animal...it was a great day!

We came home and unpacked and went to bed. We were tired! We spent the next day recovering and now here we are. =o)

Ordered some flowers for my dear bestest friend today, as I had been going to do that for our 10th Best Friend Anniversary but didn't get to....so I was sending her an awesome bouquet of flowers today--got a phone call from them a little while ago saying they were canceling my order as they can't get on the base to deliver them. I don't know for sure if that's true entirely but it makes me sour all the same. The other really ehhh thing is my dh is going to have to have the smallpox vaccination. I don't like it but I will spare everyone my rant about it. It makes me tremendously nervous. He will be putting it off until he leaves for Mayport in about a month where he will be away for over a month. I don't wish he had to have it but at least if he does he can protect us from it by being gone the whole time he's healing. hehe

Oh and another really cool thing is that B put his pinewood derby car into the special fund raising council race that was held yesterday. They actually had the whole thing closed except to "celebrity" people--and what they did is the people (mayors, police chiefs, local celebrity types) bid on the different cars to race against one another...the money all went to our local council which was super cool. I know B's car raced against News Channel 5's Van--and it WON! I don't know what other races it was in...and I do know that he was supposed to get an autograph from a Nascar Truck driver for donating his car to be used....I can't remember his name but dh will know, he just won the race this weekend which was even cooler!

Okay I am off...been working hard on a website for a CLIENT. Contain yourselves but it's true, I have a real CLIENT. It's a fun site--and I am having alot of fun doing the page...which makes it weird that this is called work! I'll have to share it with everyone when it's done!

Much love, huggles, snuggles, and TONSA blessings sent to all of you!
~A

I miss the smilies but don't have time right now to add them...forgive me please! Just imagine them as you go lolol
